INDIA AND CHINA CLASH OVER 27 ARUNACHAL PRADESH LOCATIONS
August 11, 2026 — India: Tensions between India and China have risen again following a dispute over the official identification of 27 locations and geographical features in Arunachal Pradesh. India has formally standardised the names of the 27 locations on official Survey of India maps, a move that Beijing has strongly criticised. The latest development has renewed attention on the long-running territorial disagreement between the two Asian powers. The Indian government announced the mapping exercise on August 7, explaining that the locations were formally marked on official maps to ensure their accurate identification and improve public awareness of their geographical and historical importance. Among the locations are villages, mountain passes, lakes and memorial sites.
