ENUGU POLICE RESCUE 211 KIDNAP VICTIMS

The Enugu State Police Command says it rescued 211 kidnapped victims and detained 6,240 suspects during 17 months of security operations across the state. The figures were disclosed by the Commissioner of Police, Mamman Giwa, during a working visit by the Assistant Inspector-General of Police, Zone 13, Miller Dantawaye. According to the command, the period under review covers operations carried out since Giwa assumed office on March 11, 2025. SECURITY OPERATIONS The police said the operations targeted kidnapping, armed robbery, murder, cultism, illegal possession of firearms and other offences. Among those detained were 158 suspected kidnappers, 186 suspected armed robbers, 188 murder suspects, 57 suspects linked to rape and defilement, 273 suspects connected with alleged cult activities and 63 suspects accused of unlawful firearm possession. The victims, who spent 56 days in captivity, were freed after a major security operation involving the Nigerian military and other security agencies. The rescue operation ended a painful period of uncertainty for families and communities who had waited anxiously for the safe return of their loved ones. The victims included 39 pupils and six teachers, with reports stating that one teacher, Michael Oyedokun, was killed during the period of captivity.
