FERRY CAPSIZES OFF NORTHERN CYPRUS, LEAVING EIGHT DEAD AND 18 MISSING

A passenger ferry carrying 267 people has capsized and sunk off the coast of Northern Cyprus, leaving at least eight people dead and 18 others missing. A major search-and-rescue operation is continuing as authorities work to locate those still unaccounted for. The privately operated ferry was travelling from Kyrenia, also known as Girne, toward the Turkish port of Tasucu when the disaster occurred on Sunday, August 30, 2026. According to authorities, the vessel began taking on water shortly after leaving port. The exact cause of the incident remains under investigation.
