CANADA AND U.S. INTENSIFY TRADE TALKS AS AUGUST 19 TARIFF DEADLINE APPROACHES
August 11, 2026 — Canada and the United States: Canada and the United States are intensifying high-level trade negotiations as both countries work to prevent another round of U.S. tariffs on Canadian goods from taking effect on August 19. Canada’s minister responsible for U.S. trade, Dominic LeBlanc, is meeting U.S. Trade Representative Jamieson Greer in Washington on Tuesday, alongside Canada’s chief trade negotiator, Janice Charette. The meeting comes as Ottawa faces increasing pressure to reach an agreement before the approaching tariff deadline.
