TWO UN PEACEKEEPERS KILLED IN SOUTH SUDAN AMBUSH AS SECURITY CONCERNS GROW
Two Ethiopian United Nations peacekeepers have been killed and seven other people injured after an armed group ambushed a UN patrol in South Sudan’s Jonglei State, in the latest incident highlighting the serious security challenges facing the country. The attack occurred on Monday, August 24, 2026, as personnel from the United Nations Mission in South Sudan (UNMISS) were travelling toward Pajut, a remote area of Jonglei State. According to the UN mission, unidentified armed men attacked the patrol during its journey. TWO PEACEKEEPERS KILLED The two peacekeepers who lost their lives were Ethiopian personnel serving with UNMISS. Seven other people were injured in the attack, including three UN peacekeepers, two members of the South Sudan National Police Service and two civilian UN workers.
