Nigeria’s Muslim-Muslim presidential ticket controversy has returned to the centre of national debate as political parties prepare for the 2027 general elections. The issue has intensified following recent comments by Islamic cleric Sheikh Yahya Jingir, who publicly advocated the continued use of a Muslim-Muslim ticket and made remarks about non-Muslims that have triggered strong reactions across the country. The controversy is not entirely new. In the 2023 presidential election, Bola Ahmed Tinubu and Kashim Shettima contested under the All Progressives Congress (APC) on a Muslim-Muslim ticket.
