OBI DEFENDS NDC TICKET AS NNPP ATTACKS KWANKWASO

Nigeria’s 2027 political contest has taken another turn after NDC presidential candidate Peter Obi urged supporters to protect their votes, while the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP) criticised the decision to select Rabiu Kwankwaso as his running mate.

Obi made the call as he continued political engagements with supporters and stakeholders in Kogi, Benue and Enugu states. He urged Nigerians to participate actively in the democratic process and ensure that their votes are protected from the polling unit through the final declaration of results.

OBI URGES VOTERS TO STAY ALERT

According to Obi, voters should turn out in large numbers and remain committed to protecting the electoral process.

The NDC candidate said his recent engagements had focused on issues affecting ordinary Nigerians, including insecurity, unemployment, healthcare, education and poverty.

He maintained that citizens were demanding basic conditions that would allow them to live and work with greater security and dignity.

Obi’s message comes as political parties and candidates intensify preparations for the 2027 general election. His call for voters to defend their ballots also reflects the growing importance of electoral participation and monitoring ahead of the contest.

NNPP CRITICISES KWANKWASO

While Obi has continued to defend his political direction, the NNPP has attacked the NDC’s choice of Kwankwaso as his running mate.

In a statement issued on Monday, NNPP Secretary-General Ogini Olaposi described the decision as a “gross mistake” and questioned Kwankwaso’s political record.

The party accused the former Kano State governor of turning against the NNPP after contesting the 2023 presidential election on its platform. The NNPP argued that his previous relationship with the party should raise questions about his loyalty and political judgment.

The criticism represents a significant political attack on the Obi-Kwankwaso partnership as the opposition coalition attempts to build momentum ahead of 2027.

OBI AND KWANKWASO PARTNERSHIP

Despite the criticism, Obi has defended the decision to work with Kwankwaso and challenged Nigerians to examine the backgrounds of both politicians before making their judgments.

The partnership brings together two prominent opposition figures who have previously contested presidential elections separately. Their alliance is therefore being closely watched as political parties position themselves for the 2027 race.

For the NDC, the challenge will be turning the alliance into broad national support while addressing concerns raised by opponents.

2027 CONTEST GATHERS MOMENTUM

The latest developments demonstrate how quickly political competition is intensifying ahead of the 2027 election.

Obi’s appeal for voters to protect their ballots places emphasis on participation and electoral vigilance, while the NNPP’s criticism focuses on the political history of his chosen running mate.
