AFRICOM Unveils New Africa Security Strategy Focused on Security, Development and Innovation

The United States Africa Command (AFRICOM) has introduced a new strategic approach aimed at strengthening security cooperation across Africa while placing greater emphasis on economic development, technology and innovation.

The strategy was unveiled during discussions at the African Chiefs of Defense Conference, where military leaders and security officials from different countries examined ways to address the continent’s growing security challenges.

For years, many African nations have faced complex threats, including terrorism, violent extremism, piracy, cybercrime, organised crime and regional conflicts. AFRICOM’s new approach seeks to move beyond traditional military responses by combining security efforts with development initiatives that can address some of the root causes of instability.

The strategy highlights the importance of stronger partnerships between African countries and international allies. It focuses on improving intelligence sharing, strengthening the capacity of African security forces, and supporting efforts to maintain peace and stability.

A major part of the new direction is the recognition that security is closely connected to economic growth and technological advancement. Officials noted that investments in infrastructure, innovation and digital solutions can contribute to long-term stability by creating opportunities and improving resilience in vulnerable communities.

The conference also highlighted the need for African nations to take greater ownership of their security priorities. Regional cooperation, local expertise and stronger institutions remain key elements in responding effectively to emerging threats.

AFRICOM officials said the strategy reflects changing security realities on the continent, where challenges are becoming increasingly interconnected. Issues such as climate change, food insecurity, misinformation and cyber threats are now considered important factors affecting national and regional security.

African defence leaders welcomed continued cooperation but stressed the importance of partnerships that respect national sovereignty and support sustainable solutions tailored to each country's needs.

The new strategy comes at a time when several parts of Africa are dealing with serious security concerns, including insurgencies in the Sahel region, conflicts in parts of Central Africa and instability affecting coastal areas.

Analysts believe that combining military cooperation with economic development and innovation could provide a more comprehensive approach to tackling Africa’s security challenges. However, they also emphasise that success will depend on effective implementation, transparency and continued collaboration among African governments and international partners.

As AFRICOM expands its engagement across the continent, the focus will remain on building stronger security institutions while supporting initiatives that promote peace, stability and sustainable development.

COUNTRIES THAT WERE ONCE PREDOMINANTLY CHRISTIAN BUT ARE NOW MUSLIM-MAJORITY

INTRODUCTION Across the Middle East, North Africa, and parts of Europe and Central Asia, Christianity once flourished centuries before Islam emerged in the 7th century. Many regions that are today Muslim-majority were originally dominated by Christian populations, churches, monasteries, and theological centers that shaped early Christian doctrine. Over time, political change, military conquest, economic systems, social pressure, migration, and historical conflicts transformed the religious demographics of these regions. This article examines countries and regions that were once largely Christian but are now predominantly Muslim, using historical evidence and demographic estimates. EGYPT Egypt was one of the earliest and most influential centers of Christianity. The Church of Alexandria played a foundational role in Christian theology, and monasticism originated in the Egyptian desert. Before the Arab-Muslim conquest in 640 CE, Egypt was overwhelmingly Christian, with the ma...

TRUMP DEPLOYS NATIONAL GUARD TO CHICAGO AMID RISING UNREST In a move that has sparked widespread debate across the United States, President Donald Trump has authorized the deployment of 300 National Guard troops to Chicago. Administration officials say the deployment is aimed at restoring peace and protecting federal buildings, businesses, and citizens, but critics argue it marks another instance of federal overreach and political showmanship. The announcement was made late Saturday following a high-level security briefing at the White House. In his statement, Trump emphasized that the federal government “would not sit idly by while chaos and violence undermine public safety.” The president pointed to reports of shootings, looting, and clashes between demonstrators and police as justification ...
