NIGERIA STRENGTHENS NATIONAL SECURITY AS TINUBU APPROVES MAJOR ARMY EXPANSION

The Federal Government of Nigeria has taken a significant step toward strengthening national security with the approval of a major expansion of the Nigerian Army. President Bola Ahmed Tinubu authorized the increase of the Army's operational structure from eight divisions to twelve divisions, a move aimed at improving the military's capacity to respond to the country's evolving security challenges.

The expansion comes at a time when Nigeria continues to face threats from terrorism, banditry, kidnapping, communal conflicts, and other forms of criminal activity in different parts of the country. By increasing the number of divisions, the government hopes to improve troop deployment, enhance operational efficiency, and provide faster responses to security incidents across the nation.

As part of the initiative, the Nigerian Army will recruit approximately 28,000 additional personnel over the coming years. The recruitment exercise is expected to strengthen the military's manpower while creating employment opportunities for thousands of qualified Nigerians interested in serving their country.

To ensure the successful implementation of the expansion, the Chief of Army Staff has also announced the appointment of commanders for the newly created divisions. These appointments are designed to provide experienced leadership capable of overseeing military operations, coordinating strategic missions, and maintaining discipline within the newly established formations.

Military analysts believe that expanding the Army's command structure will improve operational coordination and intelligence sharing among various units. With additional divisions strategically positioned across the country, security forces are expected to respond more effectively to emerging threats while improving the protection of lives, property, and critical national infrastructure.

The development also reflects the Federal Government's broader commitment to modernizing Nigeria's armed forces. Beyond increasing troop strength, the military is expected to continue investing in advanced equipment, improved logistics, enhanced training programs, and modern surveillance technologies to boost operational effectiveness.

Security remains one of the government's top priorities, and many Nigerians have expressed hope that the expansion will contribute to reducing violent crimes and restoring peace in affected communities. Improved military presence in vulnerable regions could also help support economic activities by creating a safer environment for businesses, investors, farmers, and local communities.

While the expansion represents a major milestone, experts emphasize that military action alone cannot permanently solve Nigeria's security challenges. They recommend a comprehensive approach that combines effective policing, intelligence gathering, judicial reforms, community engagement, economic development, and youth empowerment to address the root causes of insecurity.

Overall, the approval of four new Army divisions and the appointment of their commanders mark an important chapter in Nigeria's ongoing efforts to strengthen national defense. If effectively implemented alongside broader security reforms, the initiative has the potential to enhance national stability, improve public confidence in the country's security institutions, and contribute to a safer and more secure future for all Nigerians.

COUNTRIES THAT WERE ONCE PREDOMINANTLY CHRISTIAN BUT ARE NOW MUSLIM-MAJORITY

INTRODUCTION Across the Middle East, North Africa, and parts of Europe and Central Asia, Christianity once flourished centuries before Islam emerged in the 7th century. Many regions that are today Muslim-majority were originally dominated by Christian populations, churches, monasteries, and theological centers that shaped early Christian doctrine. Over time, political change, military conquest, economic systems, social pressure, migration, and historical conflicts transformed the religious demographics of these regions. This article examines countries and regions that were once largely Christian but are now predominantly Muslim, using historical evidence and demographic estimates. EGYPT Egypt was one of the earliest and most influential centers of Christianity. The Church of Alexandria played a foundational role in Christian theology, and monasticism originated in the Egyptian desert. Before the Arab-Muslim conquest in 640 CE, Egypt was overwhelmingly Christian, with the ma...

TRUMP DEPLOYS NATIONAL GUARD TO CHICAGO AMID RISING UNREST In a move that has sparked widespread debate across the United States, President Donald Trump has authorized the deployment of 300 National Guard troops to Chicago. The decision, according to the White House, comes in response to a series of violent protests, vandalism, and reported lawlessness that have gripped parts of the city in recent weeks. Administration officials say the deployment is aimed at restoring peace and protecting federal buildings, businesses, and citizens, but critics argue it marks another instance of federal overreach and political showmanship. The announcement was made late Saturday following a high-level security briefing at the White House. In his statement, Trump emphasized that the federal government “would not sit idly by while chaos and violence undermine public safety.” The president pointed to reports of shootings, looting, and clashes between demonstrators and police as justification ...
