ENGLAND CRUSH CROATIA 7-0
England produced one of their most dominant performances of the year on Saturday, defeating Croatia 7-0 in the UEFA Nations League in Rijeka and handing the hosts the heaviest defeat in their football history.
The result was particularly significant for England, who displayed attacking quality, intensity and control throughout the match. By half-time, Thomas Tuchel's side had already established a commanding 4-0 advantage, leaving Croatia with little opportunity to recover.
Harry Kane opened the scoring in the eighth minute before Jude Bellingham doubled England's advantage. Anthony Gordon then added a third goal, while Bukayo Saka scored shortly before half-time to complete a devastating first-half display.
ENGLAND CONTINUE THE ASSAULT
England showed no signs of slowing down after the interval. Kane scored his second goal in the 53rd minute, followed by another goal from Saka in the 68th minute.
Morgan Rogers completed the scoring in the 87th minute, giving England a remarkable seven-goal victory. Kane and Saka finished the match with two goals each, while Bellingham, Gordon and Rogers also found the net.
The victory was England's biggest win in the UEFA Nations League and their largest victory since beating North Macedonia 7-0 in 2023. It also extended England's impressive away record, with the team matching a national record for consecutive away victories.
MODRIC EXPRESSES SHOCK
For Croatia, the defeat was a historic low point. Their previous heaviest defeat had been a 6-0 loss to Spain in 2018.
Croatia captain Luka Modric was particularly critical of the team's performance. The veteran midfielder said he felt ashamed for the first time during his two-decade international career and described the performance as unacceptable.
Modric highlighted the team's lack of aggression, togetherness and intensity, arguing that losing to a stronger opponent was understandable but that the manner of the defeat was damaging to Croatia's reputation.
A MAJOR STATEMENT FROM ENGLAND
The emphatic victory represents an important statement from England under Tuchel. The team combined attacking efficiency with sustained pressure and produced four different first-half goals, demonstrating the depth of attacking options available to the manager.
Kane also strengthened his remarkable international record by scoring twice, taking his England tally to 89 goals in 124 appearances. He is now just one appearance away from equalling Peter Shilton's record of 125 England men's appearances.
Croatia now face the difficult task of recovering quickly. Their next challenge is against Spain, who have already defeated them 4-1 in the Nations League.
For England, however, the 7-0 victory provides significant momentum and confidence as their Nations League campaign continues.
