-

The 2026 Asian Games have produced another exciting day of competition, with major developments in boxing, women’s football and cricket capturing international attention. Three of the latest stories involve Taiwan’s Lin Yu-ting, Japan’s women’s football team, and India’s cricket team.

These results highlight the intense competition taking place across the Games, as athletes and teams continue their pursuit of Asian Games medals.

LIN YU-TING WINS BOXING GOLD

Taiwanese boxer Lin Yu-ting has won the women’s 60kg boxing gold medal at the 2026 Asian Games.

Lin defeated China’s Yang Chengyu by a unanimous 5-0 decision in the final. The victory added another major achievement to Lin’s international boxing career and gave Taiwan a gold medal in one of the tournament’s highly competitive combat-sport events.

The bout attracted considerable international attention because of Lin’s previous Olympic experience and her participation in the 2024 Paris Olympics.

Against Yang, Lin produced a composed performance and secured the judges’ unanimous decision. Her technical ability, movement and experience helped her control the contest and finish the competition with the gold medal.

For Taiwan, the victory represents an important achievement at the Asian Games and another significant moment for Lin on the international sporting stage.

JAPAN WINS WOMEN’S FOOTBALL GOLD

Japan has claimed the women’s football gold medal after an extraordinary final against North Korea.

The match finished 2-2 after regulation play, forcing the gold-medal contest to be decided by a penalty shootout. Japan eventually prevailed 5-3 on penalties to secure the championship.

The final demonstrated the competitiveness of women’s football in Asia, with both teams fighting through a closely contested match before the decisive penalty shootout.

Penalty shootouts can place enormous pressure on players because every kick can determine the outcome of a major international tournament. Japan maintained its composure when it mattered most and converted enough penalties to secure the gold medal.

For North Korea, the result meant finishing with the silver medal after a strong performance throughout the tournament.

Japan’s victory adds another important achievement to its women’s football record and underlines the country’s continued presence among Asia’s leading football nations.

INDIA REACHES CRICKET GOLD-MEDAL FINAL

India has also secured a place in the Asian Games cricket gold-medal final after a convincing victory over Sri Lanka.

India defeated Sri Lanka by 124 runs in the semifinal, producing a strong all-round performance to move into the championship match.

The result sets up a highly anticipated gold-medal final against Pakistan. The meeting is particularly significant because cricket matches between India and Pakistan traditionally attract enormous attention from supporters across Asia and around the world.

India’s 124-run victory demonstrated the difference between the two teams on the day and gave the Indian side valuable momentum heading into the final.

The upcoming India-Pakistan contest will provide both teams with an opportunity to compete for the Asian Games gold medal. With the championship at stake, the match is expected to attract considerable attention from cricket supporters.

THREE STORIES, ONE MAJOR SPORTING DAY

The latest Asian Games results demonstrate the variety and competitive nature of the tournament.

Lin Yu-ting’s boxing victory provided an individual triumph for Taiwan. Japan’s women’s football victory delivered a dramatic team success after a penalty shootout. India’s cricket victory, meanwhile, secured a place in a highly anticipated gold-medal final.

Together, these developments show how the Asian Games continue to provide major moments across different sporting disciplines.

As competition continues, athletes and teams will remain focused on medals, records and national pride. For sports fans, the latest results have provided another memorable chapter in the 2026 Asian Games and set the stage for more major contests in the days ahead.
