PAKISTAN SUPREME COURT ORDERS IMRAN KHAN’S TRANSFER TO HOSPITAL

Pakistan’s Supreme Court has ordered authorities to transfer former Prime Minister Imran Khan from prison to a hospital for medical examination, marking a significant development in the ongoing legal and political controversy surrounding the jailed opposition leader.

The court directed that Khan be moved to Shifa International Hospital in Islamabad within the next two days. The decision follows concerns raised by his family, lawyers and political party regarding his health and access to specialist medical care.

COURT ORDERS MEDICAL ASSESSMENT

The Supreme Court ordered the formation of a medical board to examine Khan and oversee his treatment. The board is expected to include medical specialists, while Khan’s personal physician and sister have also been permitted to participate in his medical assessment.

The court’s intervention came after petitions seeking improved medical access for the former prime minister. Reports have highlighted particular concerns about his eyesight and broader health while he remains in custody.

The order is intended to ensure that Khan receives appropriate medical attention while remaining under legal custody. His hospital stay is expected to continue until the court’s next hearing on September 16, according to reports on the ruling.

FAMILY ACCESS ALSO ADDRESSED

The Supreme Court also addressed Khan’s contact with his family. Reports say the court ordered weekly family meetings and telephone communication with his sons.

Khan’s family has repeatedly expressed concern about his health and sought greater access to him. His sons have also called for permission to communicate with and visit their father.

At the same time, the court placed restrictions around the hospital arrangement. Supporters were directed not to organize public gatherings outside the medical facility, reflecting concerns about security, public order and the rights of other patients.

Imran Khan remains one of Pakistan’s most influential political figures despite being imprisoned since 2023. His legal battles have continued to attract significant domestic and international attention.
