RUSSIAN ATTACKS KILL AT LEAST NINE PEOPLE ACROSS UKRAINE

August 11, 2026 — Ukraine: At least nine people have been killed and dozens injured following a fresh wave of Russian missile, drone and glide-bomb attacks across Ukraine, according to Ukrainian officials.

The overnight assault struck several areas of the country, including Kyiv and Zaporizhzhia, as the war between Russia and Ukraine continues into another dangerous phase.

The latest attacks have once again placed Ukrainian civilians and critical infrastructure under pressure, with emergency workers responding to fires, damaged buildings and casualties in multiple locations.

DEADLY ATTACKS HIT SEVERAL AREAS

Officials reported fatalities and injuries following strikes in different parts of Ukraine. Zaporizhzhia was among the areas particularly affected, with local authorities reporting deaths and numerous injuries.

The attacks also caused fires and damage in Kyiv. Ukrainian officials said emergency services were deployed to affected areas as authorities assessed the scale of the destruction.

Russia's Defence Ministry said its forces had targeted what it described as military-related facilities, including logistics centres in Kyiv and a major steelworks in Zaporizhzhia.

Russian authorities said the facilities were connected to military production or logistics. Ukrainian authorities, meanwhile, reported civilian casualties resulting from the overnight barrage.

The two sides continue to present different accounts of military operations, making independent verification of individual battlefield claims difficult.

MISSILES, DRONES AND BOMBS USED

The latest assault involved several types of weapons, according to reports. Russian forces used missiles, drones and glide bombs in attacks launched during the night.

The scale and variety of the weapons involved demonstrate the continuing importance of long-range aerial attacks in the conflict.

Ukraine has relied heavily on its air-defence systems to protect major cities and infrastructure from Russian attacks. However, repeated large-scale barrages continue to test the country's defensive capabilities.

The attacks also highlight the continuing vulnerability of major urban centres despite years of experience responding to aerial threats.

ZELENSKYY WARNS OF NORTH KOREAN SUPPORT

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy has also warned that Russia is receiving additional military assistance from North Korea.

Zelenskyy said Russia was using North Korean ballistic missiles in attacks against Ukraine and claimed that Moscow could receive further supplies.

The allegations add another international dimension to the conflict. Russia and North Korea have strengthened their relationship in recent years, while Ukraine and its Western partners have repeatedly raised concerns about military cooperation between Moscow and Pyongyang.

The claims regarding specific weapons and supplies are part of the broader information surrounding the war and should be assessed alongside independent evidence.

CIVILIANS CONTINUE TO BEAR THE COST

For ordinary Ukrainians, the latest attacks represent another night of fear and disruption.

Residential areas, workplaces and essential infrastructure remain exposed to the consequences of the continuing conflict. Emergency responders must also work under dangerous conditions to rescue victims, extinguish fires and secure damaged locations.

The repeated attacks have contributed to the broader humanitarian impact of the war, which has already displaced millions of Ukrainians and caused extensive damage across the country.

WHAT COMES NEXT?

The latest barrage is likely to increase pressure on Ukraine's allies to provide additional air-defence systems, ammunition and other military assistance.

At the same time, the attacks underscore the continuing difficulty of achieving a lasting settlement to the conflict.

As fighting continues, the immediate priority for Ukrainian authorities remains protecting civilians and responding to damage caused by the latest strikes.

The deaths reported on August 11 are another reminder that, despite diplomatic efforts and international pressure, the war continues to carry a devastating human cost.
