Federal Government Approves ₦3.6 Billion to Empower 200,000 Tailors Across Nigeria

The Federal Government has approved the release of ₦3.6 billion to support the training and empowerment of approximately 200,000 tailors across Nigeria under the Industrial Training Fund (ITF). The initiative is designed to strengthen vocational skills, create employment opportunities, and promote entrepreneurship in the country's growing fashion and garment industry.

The programme is expected to provide participants with practical training, business development support, and access to modern tailoring techniques that will improve productivity and competitiveness. By investing in one of Nigeria's largest informal sectors, the government aims to equip thousands of skilled workers with the knowledge needed to build sustainable businesses and contribute to economic growth.

The fashion industry has become one of Nigeria's fastest-growing creative sectors, generating employment for millions of people while contributing significantly to local manufacturing and commerce. However, many artisans continue to face challenges such as limited access to quality training, outdated equipment, inadequate funding, and restricted market opportunities. The newly approved intervention seeks to address some of these obstacles by improving technical capacity and encouraging innovation.

According to government officials, the initiative aligns with broader efforts to reduce unemployment, especially among young people and women. Tailoring remains one of the most accessible vocational careers in Nigeria, requiring relatively low startup costs while offering opportunities for self-employment and business expansion. With additional skills and support, beneficiaries are expected to increase their earnings, employ others, and strengthen local economies.

Industry experts have welcomed the programme, noting that investment in vocational education is essential for sustainable national development. They believe that equipping artisans with modern production methods and entrepreneurial knowledge will enhance the quality of locally made garments, reduce dependence on imported clothing, and increase the competitiveness of Nigerian fashion products in both domestic and international markets.

The programme is also expected to encourage innovation by exposing participants to contemporary fashion trends, digital marketing strategies, customer service practices, and effective business management. These skills are increasingly important as more tailoring businesses expand their reach through social media and online marketplaces.

Many stakeholders have urged the government to ensure that the selection process remains transparent and inclusive so that deserving beneficiaries from all parts of the country can participate. They also recommend continuous monitoring and evaluation to measure the programme's impact and ensure that the funds achieve their intended objectives.

If successfully implemented, the ₦3.6 billion empowerment programme could become a major boost for Nigeria's vocational sector. Beyond creating jobs, it has the potential to strengthen small businesses, stimulate local manufacturing, reduce poverty, and promote economic self-reliance. As the programme unfolds, many Nigerians will be watching to see how effectively it transforms the lives of thousands of aspiring and established tailors across the country.

COUNTRIES THAT WERE ONCE PREDOMINANTLY CHRISTIAN BUT ARE NOW MUSLIM-MAJORITY

INTRODUCTION Across the Middle East, North Africa, and parts of Europe and Central Asia, Christianity once flourished centuries before Islam emerged in the 7th century. Many regions that are today Muslim-majority were originally dominated by Christian populations, churches, monasteries, and theological centers that shaped early Christian doctrine. Over time, political change, military conquest, economic systems, social pressure, migration, and historical conflicts transformed the religious demographics of these regions. This article examines countries and regions that were once largely Christian but are now predominantly Muslim, using historical evidence and demographic estimates. EGYPT Egypt was one of the earliest and most influential centers of Christianity. The Church of Alexandria played a foundational role in Christian theology, and monasticism originated in the Egyptian desert. Before the Arab-Muslim conquest in 640 CE, Egypt was overwhelmingly Christian, with the ma...

The announcement was made late Saturday following a high-level security briefing at the White House. In his statement, Trump emphasized that the federal government “would not sit idly by while chaos and violence undermine public safety.” The president pointed to reports of shootings, looting, and clashes between demonstrators and police as justification ...
